Best months for a Cuba tour. When is hurricane season in Havana? How rainy and dry seasons affect your trip to Cuba.
Cuba, the rebellious island of the Caribbean, is a place where time seems to have stopped in the 1950s, the internet barely works, and people dance salsa joyfully in the streets... Thanks to its tropical climate, it is warm all year round, but when planning your trip to Cuba, you need to think less about “cold/hot” and more about “dry/rainy”—and, most importantly, hurricane season.
The most perfect, safest, and most comfortable time of year to visit Cuba is December, January, February, March, and April. Why is it ideal? The Caribbean sun is not scorching during these months (temperatures average around 25-28 degrees), humidity is quite low, and, most importantly, there are no tropical downpours that last for days. You can comfortably tour Havana's streets in classic American cars, explore Trinidad without working up a sweat, and enjoy a wonderful Caribbean beach holiday on Varadero's white-sand beaches. Note: Hotel prices may be a little higher around New Year's and in February, as these are part of the high season.
The greatest danger in the tropical Caribbean islands is the hurricane season. September and October are the months when Cuba and the surrounding area are most likely to be hit by severe tropical storms and hurricanes. To avoid flight cancellations, being unable to leave your hotel for days, and facing danger, traveling to Cuba during these months is risky.
The rainy season begins in Cuba in May. Temperatures rise to 32-35 degrees, but the real challenge is the intense humidity. Even if it does not rain all day, short but very heavy downpours can suddenly hit in the afternoons. When the rain stops, the humidity makes the air incredibly stifling.
In short: To comfortably experience Cuba's spirit, cigar fields, and music-filled streets, you should choose the winter or spring months (December-April).
