The Fethiye and Ölüdeniz area offers both paragliding from Babadağ, considered Türkiye's paragliding hub, and boat trips between the islands. Activities in Fethiye and Ölüdeniz currently available are listed below.
Flights take off in tandem with an instructor from launch sites on Babadağ at an altitude of approximately 1,700–1,900 meters. Time in the air varies depending on conditions; it is usually between 20–40 minutes, with landing on the Ölüdeniz shore. Flights depend on the wind and are postponed on unsuitable days. Age, weight and health requirements are listed on the activity page.
The full-day boat tour usually follows a route around Ölüdeniz Lagoon, Butterfly Valley, Aquarium Bay, and the islands, with several swimming breaks. Since Butterfly Valley can only be reached from land via a challenging trail, getting there by boat is the practical option. Whether lunch is included depends on the tour.
Saklıkent is one of Türkiye’s deepest canyons; at the entrance, you have to cross an icy stream, so non-slip shoes are essential. On the same day, you can visit the ancient city of Tlos and its rock tombs, dating back to the Lycian period. Even in summer, it is cool inside the canyon.
The full-day tour in the direction of Dalyan includes İztuzu Beach, a boat trip along the Dalyan Canal and mud baths. The area is a loggerhead turtle nesting ground, and conservation rules apply; part of the beach is closed to visitors during nesting season, and entry is prohibited in the evening. It is a long day that requires an early start; bringing a towel, a change of clothes and water is recommended.
May to October is suitable for boat tours and paragliding. July and August are hot and crowded; June and September offer a better balance in terms of sea temperature and crowds. Canyon excursions can be different in spring, when water levels are high.
Ölüdeniz is the closest location to the lagoon and the paragliding landing area. Hisarönü and Ovacık are higher up, cooler and have a wider choice of hotels; they are just a few minutes from Ölüdeniz by minibus. Çalış Beach is known for its sunsets and is close to central Fethiye. The town center, with its bazaar, fish market and marina, suits those looking for a city break.
The nearest airport is Dalaman (DLM), about 50 km away; the transfer takes approximately 1 hour. Ölüdeniz is about 14 km from Fethiye centre, and Saklıkent is about 50 km away. Minibuses make it easy to get around the region. Some sections of the Lycian Way also pass through this area; spring and autumn are ideal for hiking. The road down to Ölüdeniz is narrow and winding; parking is limited for those renting a car, so tours with transfers are more convenient. Tours in the area depart early in the morning.
