Africa Tours

Africa tours range from historic cities in North Africa to safari parks in East Africa and Indian Ocean islands. This page lists flight-inclusive package tours with an African country on the itinerary: Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia programs; safari tours in South Africa, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Kenya; and island holidays in Mauritius, Seychelles and Madagascar.

North Africa

Egypt tours cover Cairo and the Giza Pyramids, ancient temples in Luxor and Aswan, Nile cruises, and Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada on the Red Sea coast. Morocco tours highlight Marrakech, Fez, Rabat, and Casablanca, as well as the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. Tunisia itineraries visit the capital, Tunis, the ruins of Carthage, Sidi Bou Said, and Hammamet on the Mediterranean coast. Flights to these countries take 2.5–5 hours.

Safari and East Africa

In Tanzania, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro are among the best-known safari destinations, while Kenya’s most famous is the Masai Mara; itineraries are usually rounded off with a beach holiday on the island of Zanzibar. South Africa tours cover Cape Town, the Cape of Good Hope and safari parks in the Kruger region. The Great Migration (the movement of wildebeest herds) can be seen in Kenya and Tanzania between July and October.

Visa Status

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ list of “Visa Requirements for Turkish Citizens,” Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritius and Seychelles are visa-free for holders of ordinary passports (Seychelles requires travel authorisation in advance). Visas for Egypt, South Africa, Madagascar and Tanzania can be obtained on arrival; South Africa stamps passports for stays of up to 30 days without a fee. Kenya requires a paid eTA and travel insurance. Cape Verde requires a visa.

Health and Preparation

A yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required in East Africa and some sub-Saharan countries, and precautions against malaria are recommended. Before travelling, check with the Ministry of Health’s travel health centers to find out which vaccinations are required. Tap water is not safe to drink in North Africa; sun protection and comfortable shoes are useful on every trip.

What Is Included in the Price?

Flights, hotel or camp accommodation, transfers and the excursions listed in the itinerary are generally included in the package. For safari tours, park entrance fees and safari vehicles may be included or excluded depending on the itinerary; visa fees are excluded from most tours. See each tour’s included/excluded list for details.

Indian Ocean Islands

Mauritius is one of the best-known island holiday destinations in eastern Africa, with white-sand beaches, lagoons and a volcanic interior, and allows ordinary passport holders to visit visa-free for up to 30 days. The Seychelles stand out for their granite formations and tranquil beaches; they are visa-free, but prior travel authorization is required. Zanzibar is the most popular destination for a beach holiday after a Tanzanian safari, and Stone Town is a UNESCO-listed site. Madagascar appeals to nature lovers with its endemic plant and animal species. A separate list of these islands is also available on the Island Tours page.

Money and Practical Information

Egypt uses the Egyptian pound, Morocco the dirham, and South Africa the rand; US dollars and euros are widely accepted in tourist areas. Bargaining is customary in North African markets, and tipping is common. Soft-sided bags are preferred on safari tours because small aircraft have low baggage limits. These limits are also specified on the tour page.
