Island Tours

Island tours combine sea, sand and relaxation, from the coral islands of the Indian Ocean to the historic islands of the Mediterranean. This page lists flight-inclusive package tours that either have an island in their name or travel to island destinations such as the Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles and Malta. Cruises to the Greek Islands are listed on the Cruises page.

Tropical Islands

The Maldives consists of hundreds of small coral islands, each home to a single hotel, and is known for its overwater villas. Indonesia’s island of Bali is famous for its temples, rice terraces and surf beaches, while Thailand’s Phuket and the nearby Phi Phi Islands stand out for their white-sand beaches. In the Indian Ocean, Mauritius, Seychelles and Zanzibar offer peaceful, nature-focused island holidays, while Sri Lanka combines culture and nature in an island tour.

Mediterranean Islands

Malta is a Mediterranean island that can be reached with a short flight and is known for the knightly city of Valletta and the island of Gozo. Sicily in Italy is known for Palermo, Taormina and Mount Etna; Spain’s Mallorca is known for its coves and the city of Palma. In Greece, Santorini, Mykonos and Crete are the most popular islands in summer.

Visa Status

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ “Visa Requirements for Turkish Citizens” list, Mauritius and Seychelles (with travel authorization) are visa-free, as are Indonesia (Bali) and Thailand (Phuket). A visa is issued free of charge on arrival in the Maldives, while visas for Sri Lanka and Tanzania, which includes Zanzibar, can be obtained online or on arrival. Malta, Sicily, Mallorca and the Greek islands are in the Schengen Area, and a visa is required for holders of ordinary passports.

When to Go?

December–April is the dry season in the Maldives and on Sri Lanka’s west coast, while Bali’s dry season runs from April to October. The sea is calm in Phuket from November to April. The sea around the Mediterranean islands is warm enough for swimming from late May through October; thanks to its mild climate, Malta is also a popular choice for city breaks in winter.

Transport and Transfers

Flights to tropical islands usually involve a connection in the Gulf region or Asia. In the Maldives, transfers from the airport to the hotel are by speedboat or seaplane, and the price varies depending on the hotel’s location. Direct flights from Istanbul are available to Mediterranean islands. Transfer arrangements and flight details are listed in the Transportation Information section of each tour.

Where to Stay on an Island Holiday

The type of accommodation on tropical islands shapes the character of your holiday. In the Maldives, each hotel is on its own island, and meals are mostly eaten at the hotel; an All Inclusive or Half Board package therefore makes it easier to plan your budget. In Bali and Phuket, however, there is a wide range of restaurants, markets and nightlife outside the hotels, so Bed & Breakfast may be sufficient. On Mediterranean islands, hotels close to historic centres make it easier to explore the city. The package type and room type are specified on each tour page.

Activities on the Island

The most common activities on island holidays are snorkeling, scuba diving, boat trips, and sunset cruises. The Maldives and Seychelles stand out for their coral reefs, the islands of Phuket and Phi Phi for their limestone cliffs, and Malta for its clear waters and underwater caves. Whether these activities are included in the package is stated in the tour’s inclusions and exclusions list.
