In Atatürk's Footsteps: Bitola Military High School

For the Turkish people, the Balkans are not merely a geographical or tourist region; they are also a very special land where our great leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was born, grew up, and developed his ideas.

On the Balkan tours we organize at Gezpoint, we make our way to Bitola, the historic city of North Macedonia, and visit Bitola Military High School with the deepest respect.

The Walls Where a Leader Was Educated

In 1896, at just 15 years old, Mustafa Kemal left Thessaloniki and arrived in Bitola, a cold, mountainous city in Macedonia, as a young military student. He spent those pivotal years in the corridors of this building, improving his French, deepening his interest in history and literature, and nurturing his love of country and freedom. It was here that he encountered Namık Kemal's poetry and embraced the ideas of the French Revolution.

Now Serving as a Museum

Today, the second floor of this magnificent historic building, which houses the Bitola City Museum (NI Institute and Museum Bitola), is entirely dedicated to the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Memorial Room. As soon as you step inside, you are greeted by a large bust of Atatürk.

What Will We See During Our Visit? Military uniforms showing Atatürk's ranks at the time Historical photographs and personal letters from his life Maps and documents he used on the battlefields The titles of the books he read and notes from his time at military school

A Meaningful Visit with Gezpoint

During our Balkan tour, after walking along Bitola's historic Shirok Street (Wide Street), we make our way to the school building with our guides. As you listen to our guides talk about Atatürk's youth, the turbulent atmosphere in the Balkans at the time, and how the fate of a nation began to take shape in the corridors of this building, you will experience deeply moving moments.

As the Gezpoint family, we welcome all our guests who wish to see this historic heritage up close and take a journey in Atatürk's footsteps on our Balkan tours. Remember, this trip is not just a holiday; it is a debt of gratitude to our history.
